Obviously we are looking to acquire very efficient appliances, to minimize electrical loads.
We have yet to purchase either a dishwasher, washing machine, or dryer. The latter will be propane driven, and hopefully rarely used even in winter, as a clothes line should suffice for the majority of drying needs. Equally the dishwasher will only be employed when the house is at capacity and helping hands are scarce!
We have purchased a Sunfrost 16” model combination refrigerator-freezer (website). This is the most energy efficient refrigerator on the North American market and features 4” insulation, separate, highly efficient compressors for the freezer and fridge, and on average draws only 0.480 kW-hr per day (the average modern refrigerator draws around 2.4 kW-hr per day – or 5x as much).
